A Few Things About Me

Hello! My name is Tazia Moss and I want you to know how excited I am about the beauty industry. My Mom is also a hairdresser and I loved growing up watching her take care of and transform her clients. I enjoyed the times that I got to go to the salon after school and watch her work. I realized at a young age that I wanted to be involved with the industry because I realized I could use my creativity. I also love getting to know people, and I think people are incredibly fascinating because of their different looks, cultures and personality traits. I am someone who enjoys accomplishment and results from hard work. I get along well with others, and I am skilled at learning new concepts quickly. I work well under pressure and can communicate clearly and effectively. I believe you will find me well qualified for this experience. I represent the beauty industry well because I work hard, and I make sure any job is done right.

Where I Have Been

I received my nail license in 2007 and have worked in a couple different salons. While working, I continued going to school at Utah Valley University where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications, emphasizing in public relations. I enjoyed my years at college and knew my degree would help me as I pursued my true passion: working in the beauty industry. Getting my degree showed me that I am capable of anything, and I am excited to use what I learned to help me in my future career as a beautician. When I am at work, I realize how much I love being a nail technician because I never feel like I am working when I’m doing my clients nails. This made me decide to expand my abilities within the salon, so I decided to go to Paul Mitchell The School. And that leads me to…

Where I am Now

I am so grateful that I joined Paul Mitchell and am becoming a hairstylist. While I’ve been at school I’ve been on Student Council, The Take Home Team, Green Team, Shellac Nail Team, Be Nice or Else Team, and the Design Team. These teams have given me great opportunities to get involved with fashion shows, fundraisers, pageants, styling, makeup, cut-a-thons and promoting Paul Mitchell hair products. I recently returned home from Las Vegas, Nevada from a Paul Mitchell Hair show. I received amazing training and information while meeting some of my mentors. I have also been certified in Anastasia Eyebrows and Bella Lash Eyelash Extensions. I take pleasure in learning and implementing each thing I learn. I enjoy several areas of the beauty industry. I love talking to clients while giving them their services because they can become your good friends for life. I know I will always be involved in the beauty industry because it is my true passion.

Where I am Going

I will be graduating from Paul Mitchell the School October 2012. I want to cut, color, texture, do hair extensions, wax, apply eyelash extensions, acrylic nails, manicures, pedicures, glitter toes and shellac nails. After I’ve gained a sufficient amount of experience I want to open my own full service salon. I believe that my experience taking marketing, business and advertising classes at Utah Valley University will also help me in owning my salon. This is something I have always dreamed of, and I know it is something that I can do. I enjoy learning and I know that going to Beacon would be a wonderful opportunity to learn from professionals, get hands on experience, and make career contacts with those in the industry. This trip would allow me to become connected with professionals and other beauty students as well. These connections could help me obtain a job in the future. I know if I were to go I would learn the latest beauty techniques. This trip would strengthen and build my resume, help determine what aspect of the industry truly excites me, and broaden my perspective. I’m grateful for this opportunity. This is a chance of a lifetime and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

My Mentors & Client Reviews

My Mentors

Tabatha Coffey: Tabatha is well known for her series on the Bravo network called Tabatha’s Salon Takeover. She helps struggling salons turn around in one week. I admire her strong passion for creating a place for clients to enjoy while they are receiving services from their stylists. I like that she isn’t afraid to tell people what she thinks. Some people may view this as rude but she says what everyone is thinking. Her constructive criticism helps salon owners regain control of their salon and turn it back into a profitable business. Tabatha also owns her own salon, and she never raised the prices when she got her own show. She is a strong, passionate woman who works very hard.

Recently I was able to listen to Tabatha inspire and converse with students at Caper (The Paul Mitchell Hair Show) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tabatha told of an experience when she was first working in a salon and was watching a lady do hair. Tabatha said, “That is super cool how you do that. Can you teach me?” The lady responded with, “No, I don’t give away my secrets to anyone. I keep them.” Tabatha said she realized right then that she didn’t want to be that person. She couldn’t believe that someone that was supposed to be a mentor to her would say that. Tabatha wants to give whatever information she can to whomever she can to make them better and to make them feel better about what they’re doing. Tabitha told us, “Whatever secrets I have, you can have them.” I look up to Tabatha because she wants every stylist to be his or her best. She is humble because she doesn’t talk about how good she is. She wants others to succeed and become all that they can.

Robert Lobetta: Robert is an incredible hair stylist. He has some of the most amazing and interesting hair photo shoots I have seen. He is an extremely talented individual. He discovered the art of using hair as a fiber. I had the opportunity to talk to Robert after he spoke at Caper and he didn’t want to talk about himself. He wanted to know about me and the other students I was with. He wanted to know what we were doing and was happy to be in a picture with us. For someone so artistic and talented he was very modest and had a very kind nature.

Audra Turner: Audra is on the Advanced Academy at Paul Mitchell. She travels all over the country and teaches thousands of students. At Paul Mitchell the School Provo, we are lucky to have her at our school a couple times each month since she lives in Utah. Each time she helps me with a color or haircut I learn so much from her. The classes that Audra teaches are remarkable and I love how well she can communicate. She is entertaining and she makes it easy to listen to her. I look up to her because she is a hard worker, she is passionate about the industry, she’s a tremendous teacher, she has a family, she travels and she even has her own salon!
